Abstract

The threat of armed and terrorist groups to peace and security in West Africa, deserve that we try to know them better. This fact sheet on MEND offers summary information on the historical and ideological foundations of the separatist movement in Southern Nigeria. This fact sheet discusses the procedures, the zone of influence of MEND, its funding sources related to ransom, its trafficking of all kinds, including arms trafficking. Finally, the most significant actions of the armed group are listed. This fact sheet is part of a series dedicated to armed groups in West Africa.
