The new website to the United Nations Register on Conventional arms (URL : http://www.un-register.org/HeavyWeapons/Index.aspx) is a step forward toward increased transparency in armaments. More didactic and interactive, the website allows the user to easily access a valuable source of information on annual transfers of conventional arms and small arms and light weapons (SALW). Even if the UN Register remains dependant on the good will of States, it represents a unique pool of information on worldwide arms transfers and a rare transparency instrument at the international level. Besides a more user-friendly display of the data, the website provides the user with an innovative tool allowing to cross-check information reported by States.
